Ways to Use AO+ Restorative Mist

Geraldine Orentas

Our AO+ Restorative Mist was the first live and active probiotic skincare product on the market. A bit of history here about our breakthrough. In 2015, MIT scientists discovered ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). They noticed that traditional skincare products scrubbed and stripped this bacteria away over time from our skin, destroying the harmony our microbiome needs to thrive.

So, our patented AO+ Restorative Mist was born. Read on for some ways to use the AO+ Restorative Mist that you may not have thought about.

5 Ways to use the Mother Dirt AO+ Restorative Mist

Let’s talk about how to use the AO+ Restorative Mist. First, you have to shake it before using it. Apply at least 2-3 spritzes directly to your skin. You can do this twice a day or as the last step in your skincare routine – yes, after your sunscreen. You can use it all over your body, as much as you want. But here are some specific ways to use the mist, in case you haven't tried them!

1. As a scalp spray

The AO+ Restorative Mist is formulated to repair and restore your skin microbiome – including your scalp’s! Incorporating our mist into your hair care routine can help balance your scalp. Since the mist is part of our Active Probiotic System, we recommend changing your hair care routine to incorporate our Postbiotic Hydrating Hair Wash and Postbiotic Hydrating Conditioner. Then, as you step out of the shower, use 2-3 spritzes on your scalp to help balance, calm, and soothe.

2. To combat blemish-causing bacteria

Acne-prone skin often has an overpopulation of acne-causing bacteria that triggers inflammatory reactions. They’re also more likely to have an unbalanced skin microbiome, often the culprit of breakouts. Like the ones found in our AO+ Restorative Mist, topical probiotics can help restore the skin’s balance and combat acne-causing bacteria. Plus, it doesn’t feature any drying ingredients that can worsen breakouts.

3. To replace your facial mist

Face mists are water-based skincare products with hydrating ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. They’re a way to refresh your skin mid-day or after a workout. The AO+ Restorative Mist infuses the skin with good bacteria to help restore the skin microbiome. So, naturally, it makes sense that you can use it as a facial mist. In fact, it's recommended to be used after a workout. The AOB in the mist feeds off sweat, maximizing its benefits.

4. For underarm care

Whether you’re just switching to natural deodorant, or you’re looking for ways to improve your underarm’s skin, you have to consider a probiotic spray. Probiotics are good bacteria that help prevent the growth of bad bacteria. Maintaining harmony in your underarm area is key to getting body odor under control. We talk about how our AO+ Restorative Mist is the best partner for our Postbiotic Natural Deodorant for a reason. Together, they help balance the skin microbiome to fight odor. Just use 2-3 sprays and wait for it to dry before following up with our natural deodorant.

5. To help with foot odor

Try using our mist on your feet. Fun fact: “sweat doesn’t smell. Our AO+ Restorative Mist uses the ammonia in your sweat to reduce the levels of odor-causing bacteria,” says Lauren Trahan, Director of Product and Innovation for Mother Dirt.

Many of our customers use the mist as a foot deodorant to help combat odor. Just apply it to dry feet before putting on socks or shoes.

When to use the AO+ Restorative Mist

The AO+ Restorative Mist is best used as part of our Active Probiotic System. All of our other formulas are designed to act as a primer for the mist and provide enhanced results. Ideally, you’ll use the restorative mist as the last step in your routine. All you need is 2-3 sprays on the chosen area. Let it dry and continue with your day as usual.

Over time, using our probiotic mist can help restore balance to all skin types, plus it improves skin clarity and smoothness. It can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while improving the look and feel of uneven skin. It also helps balance pH in the acid mantle to maintain the skin microbiome. Enjoy!
